Wing Repair at Taylor
County High School

Students
from Taylor County High School received the wing from a
1940 Aeronca Tandem aircraft. This 70 year old wing will
be repaired and put back into service with the help of
these students under the direction of Bill Shoemaker and
Larry Mooney. Each of the KIAE schools will work on a
different element of the airplane. The aircraft will be
re-assembled and put back into service.
Challenger Learning
Center at the Academy at Shawnee

The Academy
at Shawnee has opened the third Challenger Learning
Center in Kentucky. This is the first CLC in the country
located at a public school. The Challenger Learning
Center at Shawnee offers hands on learning experiences
where students use the critical thinking skills of
applied science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics (STEM). The engaging space mission
simulation cultivates problem solving and communication
skills.
This is a great opportunity for the KIAE
network. For more information, check out their website

Engineering Kit
Delivered to Muhlenburg Co HS

KIAE Schools received
aeronautical engineering kits this month
sponsored by NASA Kentucky and the UK College of
Engineering. Muhlenberg Co HS students and
school aerospace facilitator, Krista Thompson
are excited about starting their Design Build
Fly project. In this project, students will be
designing a new wing for their RC kit that is
